The PlayStation 5 launched with a pretty robust lineup of software, but for hardcore fans, Demon’s Souls was the pick of the bunch. This remake from Bluepoint Games brought the PS3 action RPG back in style, and it acted as a day-one showpiece for what this new console is capable of. The grandaddy of the Soulsborne sub-genre has returned, and now looks better than all the rest and plays better than it ever did before. So, how did Bluepoint do it?
Noclip, a crowd funded production company that makes wonderful video game documentaries, just released its latest work, and it peels back the curtain on the excellent launch title. It’s just over an hour long, and goes into detail on how the studio rebuilt the 2009 title for new hardware. We loved details like Sony having to translate all of the Japanese design documents, the sound team using the exact same SFX files for the haptic feedback, and examining every character model to ensure no crucial details were missed. If you’ve ever been curious about Bluepoint’s remake process, this is an excellent watch.
You’ll obviously need to set aside a bit of time for this one, but it’s well worth it. Have you watched this Demon’s Souls documentary yet? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
