At the moment, whenever someone talks about the new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, people refer to it as the BOTW sequel or BOTW 2. That’s due to Nintendo itself alluding to it as such. But there is a name. And, during an IGN E3 2024 interview with Nintendo of America Director of Product Marketing Bill Trinen suggested the full BOTW sequel title is being kept a secret to avoid spoilers and hints about the game. [Thanks, IGN!]
Here’s the exact explanation from Trinen, which explained why this The Legend of Zelda BOTW sequel title is still a mystery. He also noted how all game names in the series can be important.
As for why we’re holding back on the name, you’ll just have to stay tuned because, obviously, Zelda names are kind of important, Those subtitles… they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what’s going to happen.
The latest The Legend of Zelda BOTW sequel trailer appeared at E3 2024 and, while there was no hint at a title, it did reveal new floating areas. For example, there are floating islands in the sky and Hyrule Castle itself appeared to lift above the ground.
While there is no exact date or title for the sequel yet, The Legend of Zelda: BOTW 2 will launch on the Nintendo Switch in 2024.
