EA pulls several Need for Speed titles from sale

A handful of older Need for Speed games have been removed from digital storefronts this week.

Five installments of the franchise — all of which are at least a decade old — had their in-store pages across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms taken down yesterday.

The servers for each game will also be sunsetted on August 31st, 2024. After this date, players that own the titles will still be able to play offline, but online support will be gone.

The games that have been removed from sale are: Need for Speed Carbon, Need for Speed Undercover, Need for Speed Shift, Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed, and Need for Speed The Run.

According to a developer blog post shared to Reddit, the company is “shifting gears to focus on the future of Need for Speed”.

The post explained that it is “no longer feasible” to keep maintaining servers next to the number of players still actively using them.

Back in March, EA paused development on the upcoming Need for Speed Criterion so that the team could help EA DICE finish Battlefield 6, which is expected to release by the end of the year.
