EA Sports PGA Tour release date set for spring 2024, with all four majors

EA Sports PGA Tour will launch in spring 2024, Electronic Arts said on Monday, confirming assumptions that EA Sports’ return to a professional golf sim would happen sometime around the next Masters Tournament.

EA gave the launch window in a news release timed with the beginning of this week’s 2024 PGA Championship, which is being held at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. The publisher still hasn’t named platforms for EA Sports PGA Tour, but it has called it a “next-gen golf video game.”

EA and the PGA mentioned their renewed partnership in announcing EA Sports PGA Tour a week before April’s Masters Tournament. EA Sports PGA Tour will be the first golf video game to feature all four men’s major tournaments since 2013’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14.

EA Sports PGA Tour will let players play the PGA Championship either at Kiawah Island or at 2024 host Southern Hills Country Club. The appearance of the Masters means that Augusta National Golf Course, obviously, will be a part of the game. The next Masters Tournament will be held April 4-10, 2024.

The 2024 U.S. Open will be held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, with the 2024 version set for Brookline, Massachusetts’ The Country Club. The British Open will be held at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England this year, and at the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland in 2024. It’s unknown if all four of those courses will be in EA Sports PGA Tour, but Torrey Pines and St. Andrews have appeared in EA Sports golf titles before. EA previously said that Pebble Beach Golf Links would also appear in the new game.

EA also said Monday that the “Team of 20” — the PGA club professionals (as opposed to touring professionals) who earn a spot in the PGA Championship — will be featured on the in-game event leaderboard. Also called teaching professionals, PGA club pros will appear in tutorials and coaching challenges to help EA Sports PGA Tour players sharpen both their virtual and real-world golf skills.

The 2024 PGA Championship tees off on Thursday from Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course. Collin Morikawa of Las Vegas is the defending champion.
