FromSoftware games are known for their excellent worlds and worldbuilding, but the upcoming Elden Ring is looking to take things even further, with its world and lore having been created by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin- who apparently finished his work on the game years ago. As you may have expected, though Martin’s material is of course the basis for the game’s world and story, the actual in-game writing has been done by director Hidetaka Miyazaki himself.
FromSoftware’s Yasuhiro Kitao said in a recent interview with IGN that things such as NPC dialogue and other in-game text is being written by Miyazaki, who is “at the forefront of the text, writing the text in the game.”
Kitao also said that Elden Ring’s story will be told in similar fashion to other games from the developer. “In From fashion, the story is told in fragments, and we haven’t changed our principle of providing a world and narrative that the player can interpret for themselves,” he said.
Plenty of new details on Elden Ring recently emerged from a recent round of previews. You can get more info and check out new screenshots through here.
Elden Ring launches January 21, 2024 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
