Endwalker got turned into Lego art

A lot happened in the world of Final Fantasy XIV last night. While many of us were comfy in our beds or slacking off (sorry, Tim!), Square Enix blew the lid off the game’s next expansion, Endwalker. Trailers, new jobs, more cities, and a release date all came out of the show. It was a good night for fans of the game. However, in all the noise and furor, some small, but charming news may have been missed. Square Enix put on an art exhibition, and one of the pieces consisted of a massive Lego project. Alumnus from the University of Tokyo recreated a hub city from Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, the Crystarium, into an imposing Lego diorama. And they released a video on how they did it.

Growing up, I loved creating Lego projects — but those janky planes and trucks paled in comparison to this. In the video, we see alumnus from the UT Lego club begin the project by mapping it out on a computer. After the plans are done, they laid them out via projection and began to build the foundation. Who knows how long this project took, but looking at the final results, I’d say it wasn’t an overnighter. Shout-out to the orange brick removal tool in the video. I bet that was well-used.

The video takes all but three minutes, showing the progress in fast-forward. Around the 2:50 mark, the Lego hub city of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker finally starts coming together. After the main pieces are fitted, the team starts decorating with Lego trees, bridges, and finally a starry backdrop. There are also led lights, just to make it all pretty.

That’s a lot of potential foot injuries

According to our sister site Siliconera, the entire piece consisted of more than 200,000 Lego bricks. You can check out more fancy pictures over at the artwork exhibition site, where other Final Fantasy fans shared some fancy screenshots submitted to the photo gallery.
