Murdered Queens Park Rangers youth player Kiyan Prince has been immortalised in FIFA 21 on the 15th anniversary of his death. He was tragically stabbed at the age of 15 while trying to break up a fight at school. Now, EA has added Prince to the QPR squad in FIFA 21 as a 30-year-old player — the age he would be today had his life not been cut short. AI tech and photo-real illustration have been used to recreate what the player would have looked like.
Kiyan Prince will be playable in FIFA 21 starting tomorrow on PS5 and PS4 through the career mode and Kick-Off, and custom vanity items can be earned in Ultimate Team. By completing in-game objectives, you can earn a special Kiyan Prince Foundation Kit inspired by the 04/05 QPR home kit as well as a TIFO dedicated to the player, which activates whenever a goal is scored. EA will also make a donation to the Kiyan Prince Foundation, set up by his father following the murder.
In the real world, Kiyan Prince will be listed as a QPR squad member for the 2024-22 season. His likeness will be used in a JD advertising campaign, and a Match Attax card dedicated to him will also be produced. Dr Mark Prince OBE, Kiyan’s father, said: “I want my son to be remembered not for the tragedy of his death but for the triumph of his achievements. Through this campaign my hope is that the world finally gets to glimpse Kiyan’s incredible potential fulfilled, we get to honour his talent and, hopefully, we can inspire other kids to honour their own talent too – whatever their own strengths might be.”
Les Ferdinand, director of football at QPR, then told BBC Sport: “If one person who plays Fifa can look at this and put his knife down, that’s the important legacy we want.” The football club renamed its stadium in 2019 to The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, which prompted Kiyan’s father to be invited to talk to the players at the time.
“The squad were truly humbled by Mark’s bravery and his dedication to use his pain to prevent others from having to walk the same path he has had to walk. As a club, we have worked closely with the Kiyan Prince Foundation and it has been an honour to get to know Mark on a personal level during that time. What he has been through is every parent’s worst nightmare and his response to such a tragedy has been truly inspiring.”
