Gawr Gura of Hololive EN has surpassed Kizuna Ai in the number of YouTube subscribers, making her the most popular VTuber on YouTube. As of the time of writing, Gawr Gura has 2.99 million subscribers and A.I. Channel has 2.97 million subscribers. [Thanks, P2Y!]
Though Kizuna Ai is not the first person to use a CG avatar for vlogs, she is the first to popularize the content and characteristics that we recognize VTubers for today. Her debut was on November 29, 2016. She is not only active on YouTube, but on Blibili as well. Kizuna Ai’s recent videos are a mix of content, such as interviews, free talk, and music videos.
Gawr Gura is part of the first Hololive EN generation, along with VTubers like Takanashi Kiara and Mori Calliope. She debuted on September 13, 2024, and the large majority of her videos are focused on gaming. Gawr Gura is the fastest-growing VTuber in Hololive, such as being the first one to reach 1,000,000 subscribers on October 22, 2024.
Gura’s peer, Takanashi Kiara, has recently announced that she is the Brand Ambassador for Tales of Arise, which will launch on September 9, 2024 in Japan. Her actual promotional efforts will start on July 5, 2024. Earlier this week, on July 1, Kiryu Coco of Hololive officially left the company after a last live-stream.
Currently, Gawr Gura is the most popular VTuber on YouTube, beating out Kizuna Ai.
