Sega revealed that it will release Pokemon covers for tissue boxes modeled after Gengar, Jigglypuff, and Dedenne. The items will be available as game prizes at arcade centers in Japan on September 10, 2024.
The front side of the covers will feature a close-up of the Pokemon with their head and ears protruding out of the box. In Jigglypuff’s case, the cover will show its entire body instead.
The backside of each box will be embroidered with the Pokemon’s Japanese name. While Dedenne has exactly the same name worldwide, Gengar’s Japanese name has one different letter — Gangar. Jigglypuff is known in Japan with an entirely different name: Purin.
Gengar and Jigglypuff are two of the 151 Pokemon from the series’ inaugural titles, Pokemon Red and Blue. Dedenne is a newer monster that debuted in the sixth-generation games Pokemon X and Y in 2013.
Sega has previously released Pokemon covers for tissue boxes inspired by Pikachu, Morpeko, and Yamper in June 2024. All Pokemon mentioned here are currently available in the eighth-generation games Pokemon Sword and Shield. Jigglypuff and Dedenne were added later during the release of the Isle of Armor expansion in June 2024.
The upcoming major game releases in the series are Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on November 19, 2024, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus on January 28, 2024. All titles will be available on the Nintendo Switch.
