Intellivision Amico delayed again | GamesIndustry.biz

The retro console is now due to launch “by the end of the year”

The Intellivision Amico has been delayed a third time, with its release now expected “by the end of the year.”

In a message initially sent to those who had pre-ordered the retro console, and then shared on Twitter, Intellivision Entertainment explained that it’s facing “new unprecedented international component supply and logistics challenges” that is beyond its control.

“We want to apologise as we are forced to push our desired launch date yet again,” the message continued. “In spite of these supply hurdles hampering our ability to fill all orders, we are focused and determined to deliver pre-ordered units by the end of the year. This will also allow us more time to optimise our operating system for future game development.”

The Amico was initially announced in October 2018. The retro console, inspired by the 1979 Intellivision console, targets the family market with a portfolio of new games and classic remakes. Its release was initially scheduled for October 2024.

Pre-orders for the Amico went live in early 2024, with the console receiving over 10,000 pre-sales in one week.

Its launch was first delayed to April 2024 due to “constraints imposed by the global pandemic,” and then again to Fall 2024.
