Melty Blood: Type Lumina Shiki Tohno Refuses to go to bed

Shiki Tohno, a key character in Melty Blood Type Lumina and the protagonist of Tsukhime, will not be put to bed. At least, not by faithful attendant Hisui. The first character trailer uploaded by Type-Moon Games for their anime fighter gives people a glimpse of how Shiki will play.

The Melty Blood: Type Lumina Shiki Tohno Battle Preview shows Hisui dramatically failing to get her charge to respect his bedtime. The result is a one-sided beatdown that conveniently showcases the knife-wielding teen’s ability. When the glasses come off, Shiki Tohno is revealed to be an agile, adaptive character with a strong neutral game. Though he doesn’t seem to have much in the way of reach, Shiki flicks out blows at a rapid pace, preventing opponents from gaining the advantage. Lifting kicks also seem tailored to setting up air juggles and combos, as well.

The brief match also shows off the game’s new graphical capabilities and character art, as well as a few mechanical flourishes. Hisui ably halt’s Shiki’s assault by deploying a shield in the form of a chair and picnic blanket. Shiki is also able to shield, and even demonstrates a Shield Counter, just as in earlier teasers for the game. Characters deploying an Arc Drive super will also see a cut-in of their opponent’s reaction, as well.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is in development and will release on the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on September 30, 2024. Shiki Tohno, Arcueid, Akiha, Ciel, Hisui, and Kohaku are confirmed for the roster. The game will support Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean languages.
