No Man’s Sky has had a crazy five years, hasn’t it? The game enjoys its fifth anniversary today — 9th August at the time of writing — and boy has it come a long, long way since those divisive early days. Huge, consistent updates have transformed No Man’s Sky into a true sci-fi epic, and Hello Games founder Sean Murray is happy to recall the game’s defining moments over on the PlayStation Blog.
He writes: “We knew this was the start of a journey, but never expected what a wild ride it would be. Today we’d like to take a moment to appreciate this milestone together. It hasn’t always been easy, but the thing that has been our guiding star throughout has been the players and the community. Behind every update, every video, every feature and line in a patch note is a team that cares so deeply for this game.”
But what’s next for No Man’s Sky? Well, Murray concludes his post by teasing ‘Frontiers’ — the title’s next update. “As we push forward to 2024, our next update Frontiers is something I’m very excited about. In some ways it is just another update, but in other ways it’s a missing piece of the sci-fi fantasy that we’ve always wanted to add, and very fitting for our fifth anniversary,” he states. Murray goes on to confirm that Frontiers “is not far off”, and that more information is coming “very soon”.
