The company’s audio ads aim to avoid disrupting gameplay
Audio ads platform Odeeo has raised $1 million to further develop its offering.
The seed funding round was led by VC fund Play Ventures, with contributions from Mobile Dev Memo Syndicate’s Eric Seufert and Deconstructor of Fun’s Michail Katkoff, Games Beat reported.
Odeeo was created earlier this year by IronSource alumni, Amit Monheit and Elad Stern. Its aim is to provide “non-disruptive” audio ads for mobile games.
The technology has already been integrated to 100 games, and has a waitlist of 200 more titles, Monheit told Games Beat.
“We do not pause the game,” he commented. “The kind of ad is standard audio, which is equivalent to an interstitial ad [one that plays during a kind of intermission]. It could be a welcome message. The other is a user opt-in ad, where a player who fails a level can immediately restart that level while listening to an ad. We don’t think it replaces video ads. It gives developers a new monetization tool.”
Earlier this year, Play Ventures raised $135m to invest in game studios.
