You might recall back in April we reported on the fact that Super Mario 64 was now playable via a browser using Super Mario 64: Browser Edition. Now, our friends over at Pure Xbox have discovered that this version is playable on an Xbox console, using the system’s built-in Edge browser.
While the game does suffer from slight performance issues in Edge, the Xbox browser is due to be updated soon, and this might improve things.
Here’s Pure Xbox’s Daniel Hollis playing the game on his Series X:
Super Mario 64 originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1996, and was recently included in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on Switch. Recently, a mint and sealed copy of the game sold for an eye-watering $1.56 million at auction.
Do you think Nintendo will take steps to block this interesting little loophole? Or is this the kind of hack that is beyond the Japanese company’s control? Let us know your predictions – and if you’ve got Super Mario 64 running on your Xbox – by posting a comment below.
