Remasters of three Grand Theft Auto games may be in the works

Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series have circulated quite a few rumors about the franchise in recent months. Some have speculated extensively about a potential Grand Theft Auto VI thanks to reports from a few credible sources, and many have eagerly awaited confirmation that Rockstar will release remasters of the PlayStation 2 Grand Theft Auto entires. Now, fans have even more reason to believe that this remastered collection may come soon, as Kotaku just published a report alleging the existence of Grand Theft Auto IIIGrand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remasters.

According to the report, the three games will sport updated visuals courtesy of Unreal Engine that will combine “new and old graphics.” Although the original games’ UI will apparently also receive updates, the report clarified that they still feel very much the same. Rockstar Dundee, one of Rockstar’s newer studios, is supposedly handling the remasters’ development, and the studio plans to stay faithful to how people remember the games during that time.

Who are the sources?

Kotaku stated in the report that it received this information from three unnamed sources, which the outlet describes as being trustworthy. Kotaku claims that the three sources notified the site about updates that were coming to other Rockstar games, which proved to be true.

It remains difficult to determine the credibility of the three sources mentioned in the report, which in turn makes it difficult to determine the validity of their claims. But fans definitely have reason to trust these sources, especially since publisher Take-Two recently announced the development of three unknown remasters. The DMCA takedowns that Take-Two have levied against classic Grand Theft Auto mods may serve as another hint toward the existence of these remasters. Ultimately, though, fans will have to wait for more news to see if this report holds up.
