Recent spottings of the updated PlayStation 5 in Australia have been reported by Press-Start, who allegedly found a PlayStation 5 with the updated serial number. Sony had plans of changing its console up to meet demands, and the updated model went live on sale in a silent fashion.
To be clear, the revised PlayStation 5 has little to no difference in terms of performance and power consumption. The two most notable differences are that the stand comes with a screw that can be adjusted by hand, and that it weights 300 grams lighter than the launch version. The latter difference does hint at hardware swaps, but fans shouldn’t expect anything substantial on that front.
Of course, it makes complete sense that Sony wouldn’t make big announcements for this updated model. Given that there are no performance differences, it would probably cause more confusion amongst fans than excitement. Sony’s latest and greatest has been selling like hot cakes, and it has become the fastest selling console in US history – selling well over 10 million units at the time of writing.
