Rumours regarding a supposed Grand Theft Auto collection have been swirling for years now — some kind of remastering project that revives Rockstar classics from the PlayStation 2 era. Alas, none of these rumours have actually led to any concrete evidence — but a new report from Kotaku, based on three different sources, says that the Grand Theft Auto remasters are real.
According to the report, the remastered games are in the final stages of development. Three titles are apparently being remastered: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. What’s more, they’re being remastered using Unreal Engine, with a mix of “new and old graphics”.
One source says that the games look like heavily modded versions of classic GTA games, and apparently, even the user interface has been updated in all three titles, with their old style intact. In terms of gameplay, Rockstar is supposedly staying as true to the original games as possible.
As for potential release dates, Kotaku writes that the remasters are set to launch later this year, in late October or early November, for both PS5 and PS4.
