And here we are at the end of another packed week in the world of video games. We’ve had a ton of anniversaries this past week — specifically on Wednesday when the Nintendo 64 turned 25 (along with its launch games like Super Mario 64, which we think you might have read about enough already), Sonic Adventure 2 turned 20, Sonic himself turned 30, and we all turned away in disgust at the relentless march of Time.
It’s now time to unwind a little and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!

I need to get back into Metroid: Zero Mission having not had much time this week; I’ve been playing it on the Wii U GamePad, which is a fun throwback. Apparently it’s not too long, so I will potentially also get onto Super Metroid via Switch Online this weekend too, I’m enjoying a slow and steady journey through the ‘numbered’ Metroid games. I also nabbed Earth Atlantis in a sale with my Gold Points, so will give that a few runs.
Outside of Nintendo gaming I’ll definitely download Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered through Game Pass, it’d be rude not to!

A virtual sports-heavy weekend on the way. I’m having quite a blast with SEGA’s Olympic Games Tokyo 2024, Dunk Lords keeps on “boomshakalaking”, Mario Golf: Super Rush puts Camelot on the green once more, and as per tradition I am playing out the ongoing EURO 2024 in Virtua Striker 3 v2003 on GameCube. We’ve reached the scary part where only one team moves forward in every game! Will be quite awkward when Portugal faces off England in the decisive match.
Game of the week is LEGO Builder’s Journey. Unexpected, soothing, bricks for days… and utterly brilliant.

After scoffing at the idea of a 30th anniversary Sonic Symphony and assuming it would be nothing but Crush 40 banging on about living and learning and opening your heart and not letting anybody hold you back or keep you down or jump in the parking space you were eyeing at the supermarket, etc, etc, I watched the opening medleys devoted to the Mega Drive and Master System games and got smacked squarely in the feels. Therefore, I’d love to sit down this weekend and blast through some old-school Sonic games like Tom did recently.
I also went on a GBA bidding binge recently and bought Sonic Pinball Party, Mario Tennis, and Mother 3, so a quick blast through those wouldn’t be bad, either. I’m also working my way through Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DLC, the first part of which seems to be a bunch more busy work. That makes it sound dull and repetitive — and it is kinda dull and repetitive — but whooping ass in that game is also quite calming. The second part of the DLC will bring the meaty stuff, I believe, but I’m happy to steadily tick off the tasks of this first part for now.

Hello folks! Hope you’re all well. I’ve finally finished my latest run through the Halo series — yay me! I’m honestly tempted to go back and try a LASO run, but I don’t think I’m quite ready to subject myself to that just yet. Maybe closer to the launch of Infinite, we’ll see.
Elsewhere, I’m still knee deep in Metroid at the moment; I’m about halfway through Samus Returns, and it’s making me so excited to finally play Metroid Dread! Have a good one, all!

This week has been VERY busy: I’ve been playing [REDACTED] and [CENSORED] and even a bit of [NDA]. Wait, why are none of the game titles showing up?
I’m kidding. There are a few games this week that I won’t be able to talk about for a while! But, of course, I’ve still been chugging away on The House In Fata Morgana, and outside of work, I’ve been playing Chicory. I’m pretty biased, since I know a lot of the people who worked on it, but it’s such a lovely game. Imagine if Art Academy also made you cry. I hope it comes to Switch one day so I can gush about it for realsies!
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days…
