The Callisto Protocol Channels its Inner John Carpenter in New Concept Art

News

If you were a fan of EA’s Dead Space franchise, then Striking Distance Studios’ upcoming survival horror revival The Callisto Protocol may be just what you need in your life right now.

Spearheaded by industry veteran Glen Schofield – the former Vice President of Dead Space developer Visceral Games, as well as the horror series’ co-creator and executive producer, too – The Callisto Protocol is set to be a spiritual successor to EA’s defunct sci-fi horror franchise.

So far, though, we’ve only been privy to a really tantalising cinematic reveal trailer (which you can check out below) and an official confirmation that the game will be set in the PUBG universe.

Thankfully, in commemoration of John Carpenter’s The Thing‘s 39 year anniversary – which was a massive influence on Dead Space’s interstellar horror aesthetic and tone – Schofield took to Twitter recently to reveal some brand new concept art for The Callisto Protocol. Feast your eyes on said art down below:

As you can see, the new concept art gives off some major John Carpenter and Dead Space vibes. From the look of the necromorph-like monstrosity at the center of the image to the green holographic writing on the blood-splattered pillar on the left, there’s certainly an echo of the otherworldly interplanetary dread of the USS Ishimura.

Frankly, we think the time for a Dead Space revival couldn’t be any better. Due to Visceral Games being shuttered in 2018, it’s fairly unlikely that EA will resurrect the beloved IP for a remaster or a remake in the future. Still, our fingers are firmly crossed for some kind of a Dead Space remaster or remake, though.

Luckily, however, we still have The Callisto Protocol to look forward to and it looks like it’s shaping up very nicely indeed.

The Callisto Protocol is scheduled to launch some time in 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
