The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was one of the first games announced for the PlayStation 5 – it was later confirmed for the PS4 as well – but it’s still a long way away from release. The game – which is being co-published by Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment – got its feeble fingers on a few minutes of alpha footage earlier today, ahead of a planned Fall 2024 launch window.
Clearly a lot of passion is being invested into the release in order to accurately recreate Tolkien’s world, and there’s promise in the mix of parkour and stealth gameplay. But the early footage looks rough, and it makes you wonder just why it was announced so early. Coronavirus will have significantly set the project back, of course, but it’s difficult to get too giddy over what’s being shown.
