Tokyo Olympics Google Doodle 16-Bit Champions Island Games

The Google Doodle for July 23, 2024, the day the Summer 2024 Tokyo Olympics began, is appropriately themed. It also happens to be a game. Doodle Champion Island Games is now available on the Google homepage and in its archive.

The Google Doodle Champion Island Games features seven games inspired by events appearing at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Players follow Lucky the cat as she takes part in each one. Doing so lets you earn points for your “team,” to send you higher up the leaderboards. You collect scrolls by playing through the Archery, Artistic Swimming, Climbing, Marathon, Rugby, Skateboarding, and Table Tennis mini games.

Here’s the opening movie for the Tokyo Olympics Google Doodle Champion Island Games. It’s created by Studio 4°C. The studio previously worked on games like Catherine, Rogue Galaxy, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.

There is also an additional feature. This looks at the making of this particular Google Doodle. It pointed out how normally one of the Doodle Champion Island Games minigames is usually how big a Google Doodle game might be. It also featured Studio 4°C talking about the animations and how Lucky was chosen as its heroine.

The 2024 Tokyo Summer Olympics will run until August 8, 2024.
