Starfield

  • It’s been a majorly busy week with lots of E3 2024 news. One major reveal was the reveal of Starfield’s first full trailer plus release date announcement. Starfield will be releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as will also be launching day one on Xbox Game Pass on November 11th, 2024.
  • It gives us a look finally at the game, showing the space set universe including the Nova Galatic spaceship interior and the surface of a planet. All footage shown uses the in-game alpha footage using the Creation Engine 2 according to the trailer. It ends with the spaceship in the process of launching, revealing the release date for the RPG.
  • Starfield was also revealed to be an Xbox Series X|S console exclusive and will also be releasing on PC. This will probably not be too much of a surprise considering that Bethesda is now under Microsoft.
  • Recently Microsoft announced they were “all in” when it comes to gaming and that they would be focusing on Xbox Game Pass which received a number of titles that were announced to be coming to the subscription service.
  • We’ll be adding information to our Starfield wiki as it releases so make sure to bookmark our wiki for all the latest.

The Outer Worlds 2

  • Obsidian announced during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase at E3 2024 that a sequel to their acclaimed RPG is underway. The Outer Worlds 2 got an announcement trailer in the most Obsidian way possible, the narrator pretty much makes fun of the whole announcement trailer throughout, but the title is very much in the development. The commentary throughout the trailer just reminds you that the development has a wicked sense of humour and that there will be plenty of that to look forward to in the sequel.
  • What can we take away from the trailer? Well according to the narrator absolutely nothing as the creature in it is now “gone forever” because it’s not even in the game, and the main character is called out for being just a silhouette because the “developers haven’t finished the design.” As announcements go this one is pretty refreshing.
  • The Outer Worlds first released in October 2019, which is now an award-winning single-player RPG that is praised for its story, narrative choices and overall humour. If you want to know what we thought of the game you can watch/read our The Outer Worlds Review: Immense Interstellar Fun.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

  • Square Enix and Team Ninja unveiled a trailer for the Final Fantasy spinoff title Stranger of Paradise. A rumour this year had been circulating online that the collaboration with the Nioh developer was in the works on an Action-RPG, now it has finally been revealed. Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin will release on Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC in 2022.
  • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy follows a group of adventurers who are on a mission to “kill Chaos”. Jack, together with his allies Ash and Jed quest to defeat Chaos in order to open the gates to the Chaos Shrine. However not everything is smooth sailing as there are “doubts” as to whether these heroes are the Warriors of the Light, which apparently is important to a prophecy. Square shares that the title promises “exhilarating, action-packed battles” in a “world of dark fantasy”. Creative Producer Tetsuya Nomura assures fans “While it is Final Fantasy, it feels different – but there’s no doubt that the blood of Final Fantasy runs through its veins”.
  • Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin also has a demo available for Playstation 5 which was originally supposed to run until June 24th but has been extended to June 26th due to issues with the release of the trial. If you want to know what we thought of the free trial and first impressions check out our Stranger Of Paradise: Souls-Like Final Fantasy Impressions video.

Vampire The Masquerade – Swan Song

In the trailer Leysha is seen playing hide and seek with her child Halsey but it soon takes a turn as she tries to determine what’s real and what’s not.

The trailer does preview a snippet of gameplay, showing Leysha investigating a crime scene, looking for clues which could be something to do with her missing daughter. Elden Ring

  • Through a recent interview with the director of Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki and IGN, the developer shared more details about the gameplay systems, stealth, lore, progression, open-world exploration and more.
  • Miyazaki also touched upon adding “new action systems and game systems” which complement the open-world concept. Players will be able to ride upon horseback, giving a new way to explore and players will also be able to jump. There are also a number of new additions for combat, that will “raise the level of freedom” when compared to previous FromSoftware games.
  • Described as a dark fantasy IP, Miyazaki explained that The Lands Between is a vast world, and bringing in author George R.R. Martin was integral to the “rich storytelling” as well as adding “that sense of character and drama”.
  • When asked about a running theme or inspiration behind enemies and bosses, Miyazaki talked about one main theme for main bosses of the game. It was G.R.R. Martin who developed characters and demigods who inherit power, tainted power that are shards of the once shattered Elden Ring. The game features six large areas each a different domain of the major demigod characters. Players have free reign on which areas they want to tackle first, without a specific order.
  • As Elden Ring is on a larger sense of scale with a vast map, the goal for FromSoftware when it came to progression is “reward no matter which direction” the player will take. A big part of the previous titles such as Souls and Bloodborne was the stamina bar. Elden Ring will have a stamina bar but the overall influence will be slightly different. According to the developer they wanted to make it “feel less restrictive and contribute to that level of freedom” when compared to previous titles.
  • The same goes for customisation, the emphasis on player choice when it comes to builds seems to be quite wide. Players can choose Skills that can be freely interchanged between a large variety of Weapons with “around a hundred skills in total”. One major addition to this Action-RPG will be Stealth, with a number of uses in the game.
  • In our latest Elden Ring video we discuss why it doesn’t need an “easy” mode, if you want more Elden Ring you should definitely check out that video.
  • Elden Ring will release on January 21st 2024.

Diablo 2 Resurrected

  • There was quite a slew of announcements during the Xbox showcase, during the live stream Blizzard announced that Diablo 2: Resurrected will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on September 23rd 2024.
  • The multiplayer beta will be coming in August but only available for certain platforms. The beta will feature 5 of 7 classes which are AmazonBarbarianPaladinSorceress, and Druid. Players can enjoy up to 8 player co-op, or go it alone as a solo experience.
  • Blizzard originally announced Diablo 2 Resurrected earlier this year at BlizzConline 2024, confirming that it was a remaster and not a remake. We had a chance to check out the technical alpha in April, which we found stayed pretty faithful to the original, there are some features added such as being able to swap between modern and old-school graphics, shared stash and reworked spells. Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Larian Studios recently gave an update on how Baldur’s Gate 3 is progressing currently in Early Access. In a recent interview they shared about the current state of the game’s development, features they are concentrating on, and when they’re hoping to fully launch the game.
  • The next update for Baldur’s Gate 3 will focus on features of the game rather than the addition of new content. In a recent interview with the founder of Larian Studios Swen Vincke with Gamespot, the developer revealed more about the current development focuses for BG3 as well as what we can expect in the next update. Vincke shared that they haven’t been sharing much recently, and silence usually means they are busy with development. He also explained that it is taking longer than expected and that the focus is on features.
  • Ruled out (well at least for the moment) is the Dungeon Master Mode, when asked about whether this will be coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 at launch or even as part of post-launch content it isn’t looking very likely as part of the plans at the moment. The main focus seems to be getting the game out the door, and there is plenty that Larian are currently focus on in terms of features. One thing Vincke did reveal is that there will be a change to the beach which is one of his favourite locations. Players can expect a “big change” in the next update, which will be dependent on which choices you make, but he has kept this rather cryptic for now.
  • If you were hoping that Baldur’s Gate 3 will leave Early Access within this year, prepare to have those hopes dashed. Larian are currently aiming for a 2024 release window, while this isn’t set in stone it is the current goal for the CRPG. Due to the pandemic causing quite the setback, Vincke hopes things will begin to pick up speed again as things get better. The studio has grown and they are in the process of adding more members to their team.
  • One of the topics touched upon during the interview is the contrast between Divinity Original Sin development and Baldur’s Gate 3. BG3 is vastly more complex in nature compared to the DOS series, being generally “more ambitious”. One thing players can count on is that there will be quite a big jump between the Early Access version and the fully launched version, even some things being completely under wraps as “some surprises” will be in store for fans.
