Animal Crossing: New Horizons content is coming in 2024, Nintendo says

More free content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in development for release later this year, Nintendo said Tuesday, adding that more details about its plans will be shared in the future. “Thank you for your support and patience,” Nintendo said to Animal Crossing fans on Twitter.

Nintendo also said on Twitter that a free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be released July 29, which will include weekly fireworks shows and new seasonal items. But it’s the promise of more updates to come — and Nintendo’s recognition of Animal Crossing fans’ patience — that’s noteworthy.

Animal Crossing fans have expressed frustration at the lack of meaningful content and game mechanics that were present in previous games, but are still missing in New Horizons. Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Direct presentation, from June, did not offer any new details on the future of New Horizons. With more than 32 million copies of Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold to date, fans have expected much much more than the occasional seasonal item update from Nintendo.

In the coming weeks, however, player will be able to purchase an Eggplant Cow and Cucumber Horse as limited time items, drink boba tea, and enjoy custom-made fireworks designs, according to Nintendo’s Japanese website.
