ASTRO x #PRIDE2023 Quotes – ASTRO Gaming Blog

For Pride Month we offered our social platforms on Twitter to the LGBTQIA+ members of the A*Star Collective and extended ASTRO family. They shared their experiences and insights as LGBTQIA+ in the entertainment industry, what changes they would like to see, and what being LGBTQIA+ means to them. Here are their collected quotes and stories.

“Growing up I was always told I need to be more like a girl. Whether it was my clothes, my hair, or the fact I didn’t wear makeup. Being out in the entertainment industry to me means showing others what it means to embrace yourself for who you are even if you haven’t fully figured that out yet.

With this, I would like to see the industry showcase the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community by featuring an uplifting BIPOC and the many other identities in the community. Everyone deserved to have a role model they can look up to.”

“Being LGBTQIA+ means having a community that accepts me for being bisexual, Black, queer, and all the things in between.

It means hopefully seeing more folks in the rainbow “fam” as part of the Collective, as content creators, and as folks who are visible in the space.”

“As an LGBGTQIA+ content creator, I live to shatter stereotypes based on preconceived notions of what being a “gay guy” means. Every day I succeed in proving that my sexuality is just one piece of a multifaceted personality. I am a DJ, a Producer, a Community Manager, a Voice Actor, a Designer, a Friend… and so much more.

I love being weird, I love being me, and just like all of you…

I belong.”

“It’s important to be seen and acknowledged within the spaces that are important to you. When I first started gaming, I couldn’t find a character that looked like me or a place where I truly felt like I belonged. As an LGBTQIA+ content creator, it is important to actively support gamers who often are underrepresented in the community.

I do this by providing a space where my community feels welcomed, safe, and appreciated. I also think it is important to provide guidance, knowledge, and support to newer LGBTQIA+ creators.”

“Being an LGBTQIA+ streamer is very important to me. Every time I go live, somebody tells me that I have given them the courage to pursue something in their own life.

Whether it’s coming out, starting to transition, or even streaming themselves! I know that my presence and confidence online helps many; proving that your identity does not limit what you are capable of.”

“Each time I hit “Go Live” on Twitch, I am overcome with the responsibility and privilege of being 100% authentically myself to an audience around the globe. To me, being in the LGBTQIA+ community means using the platform you have to uplift the rest of the community.
I do that by raising money and screaming for queer charities, speaking up on injustices, and creating a space where my community can be their most authentic selves – especially if they can’t be outside of Twitch.”

“As an LGBTQIA+ content creator, I would like to see more representation across the board, whether from people who create games and entertainment, to the content of games, movies, and shows.

I would love to see more LGBTQIA+ content creators getting opportunities and a chance to shine.”
