#ASTROUnboxed – Corey Populus A.K.A. Young Corey – ASTRO Gaming Blog

Hey #ASTROFamily! We’re back with another installment of #ASTROUnboxed. This time we feature Young Corey. Owner and Operator of Circulate and long-time streetwear fashionista.

I chose a lot of the sneakers I have because of the stories the colorways told or the memories I had of them. Sneakers for me are almost like music. When I see certain ones it brings me back to a certain place in time when I remember first seeing them or owning them. I’m a big fan of the storytelling through sneakers. I think this also helped develop the way I design today. I always try to make everything purposeful with a story so people can connect with the product.

Young Corey’s sneaker collecting started back in the 2000s. His love for streetwear and skateboarding helped mould his collection into what it is today. After a trip to his friend Danny Supa’s house for a new board he was gifted his first pair of Nike SB URL’s and the love grew from there.

“When I was a young kid I went to Danny Supa’s house to get a board and he gifted me a pair of Nike SB Urls. I skated those things to death because I was so happy to see Nike had transitioned to skateboarding.”

Grails on top of grails; Young Corey’s SB collection has a lot of rich history. From Diamond Supply Tiffany SB Dunk Lows to Zoo York SB Dunk Lows, any Nike SB fan would go crazy seeing some of his gems.

The significant thing about my collection is I have a lot of gems that not everyone has, so it’s cool wearing certain things and people sparking a conversation of a memory they have of that sneaker. A lot of friendships have been built through sneakers. My biggest dream is to have my own sneaker collaboration with a brand one day. Skateboarding, streetwear, and sneakers have helped me get to where I am today.

Corey’s prize grail in his collection is his 1994 Jordan 1 Bred. Even after all these years, this shoe is still holding together.

Favorite piece in the collection would be my 1994 Air Jordan 1. I got these brand new and have held onto them throughout the years even though they’re falling apart I love the character that they have.

Stay tuned for more from our #ASTROUnboxed series, where we’ll be bringing you a variety of interactions from members of the ASTRO community and more.
