Say what you will about developer DICE, but its post-release support is usually strong. Star Wars Battlefront 2 – a title rightly ridiculed at launch – blossomed into something spectacular once the Swedish studio was done with it, and Battlefield V also received some pretty impressive post-release additions as well.
Battlefield 2042, the new game coming to PlayStation 5 and PS4 later this year, has plenty in store across its bustling first year: an impressive four Battle Passes, spread across four seasons of content. These seasons will bring with them new Specialists – the characters you’ll be playing as – in addition to new locations.
While publisher EA is yet to outline the full scale of its plans, the PS Blog notes that any new maps will be free for everyone to enjoy, while the Battle Pass will focus on unlockable cosmetics and trinkets. As is the case in games like Fortnite, there’ll be Free and Premium tiers, so you don’t have to pay if you don’t want to.
If you are interested, however, the game’s Ultimate Edition will include the full Year 1 Pass, which will grant you access to the Premium tier of all four Battle Passes as they deploy. So, like most online shooters these days, the launch period is just the beginning of the experience, with plenty more planned post-release.
