Best PS5 FPS Games Guide 1

What are the Best PS5 FPS Games? As one of the most popular genres going, first-person shooter fans are already well served on Sony’s latest console. From competitive skirmishes through to casual shootouts, there’s certainly something for everyone. As part of our Best PS5 Games compilations, we’ve put together the Best PS5 FPS Games on the console natively. And if you’re planning to utilise PS5 backwards compatibility, please refer to our Best PS4 FPS Games guide.

Best PS5 FPS Games

Listed below is what we consider to be the Best PS5 FPS Games. These titles excel at providing intense and thoroughly entertaining experiences from the first-person perspective, all with a gun in your hand. They could be tactical operations where a single bullet means death for both you and the enemy or more casual escapades with otherworldly shields and alien weaponry. We will, therefore, try to cover as many facets as possible.

Looking to the future, other PS5 FPS games that may make it onto this list are Deathloop (14th September 2024, Arkane Studios), Far Cry 6 (7th October 2024, Ubisoft), Back 4 Blood (12th October 2024, Turtle Rock Studios), Battlefield 2042 (22nd October 2024, EA DICE), and Rainbow Six Extraction (January 2024, Ubisoft).

5. Metro Exodus (PS5)

Metro Exodus (PS5)Metro Exodus (PS5)

Publisher: Deep Silver / Developer: 4A Games

Release Date: 18th Jun 2024 (USA) / 18th Jun 2024 (UK/EU)

A gritty and intense single player experience, Metro Exodus is a stark reminder of what happens when weapons don’t always function properly. You’ll need to fix and repair the arsenal of protagonist Artyom just as much as you shoot them. It’s a fairly unique FPS in that regard, weighty in feel and high and in its stakes. We knew all of that having played the PS4 version, but on current-gen, it’s even better with PS5 DualSense controller implementation. There’s nothing quite like Metro Exodus on the market, so taking it for a whirl on your new console sounds like a good idea to us.

4. Destiny 2 (PS5)

Destiny 2 (PS5)Destiny 2 (PS5)

Publisher: Bungie / Developer: Bungie

Release Date: 8th Dec 2024 (USA) / 8th Dec 2024 (UK/EU)

The shooting mechanics of Destiny 2 have always felt sublime, and that hasn’t changed as the looter shooter makes the jump to PS5. In fact, they’re enhanced further by the console version’s adaption of 60 frames-per-second. The boost helps to make gameplay feel even smoother, and if you’ve got a compatible 4K TV, you can push the PS5 version even further to 120 frames-per-second. Combined with movement features and the wealth of content it has to offer, Destiny 2 could be the only FPS you play on PS5 and you’d be very well served for the years to come.

3. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (PS5)

Publisher: Activision / Developer: Treyarch

Release Date: 13th Nov 2024 (USA) / 13th Nov 2024 (UK/EU)

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is probably one of the most lacklustre releases out of Activision in a while, but the fact it still charts so highly speaks to the cement-like foundations it’s built upon. A Call of Duty title will always feel great to play, and Treyarch’s latest is no different. The guns feel powerful in your hands, they sound great to shoot, and hit feedback has never been better. It’s a Call of Duty game — that’s the long and short of it.

Except this specific entry is even better on PS5 thanks to the DualSense controller’s new features, adding weight to the triggers to better simulate their real-life pull. It’s a much more immersive experience that we’re sure will be capitalised on even further when the next instalment rolls around.

2. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege (PS5)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Release Date: 1st Dec 2024 (USA) / 1st Dec 2024 (UK/EU)

It may be a very well known quantity at this point, but the fact that Rainbow Six: Siege continues to remain relevant so long after its release is proof Ubisoft was always onto a winner. The French publisher eventually realised that and turned its tactical FPS into one of the most popular multiplayer titles on the market, forcing people to communicate in order to fulfil objectives and win the match. With an ever-growing roster of characters to play as, it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down either. Rainbow Six: Siege is here to stay, and that’s great because it’s one of the best online shooters going.

1. DOOM Eternal (PS5)

DOOM Eternal (PS5)DOOM Eternal (PS5)

Publisher: Bethesda Softworks / Developer: id Software

Release Date: 29th Jun 2024 (USA) / 29th Jun 2024 (UK/EU)

The best PS4 FPS game is still the best first-person shooter on PS5, for now. That is thanks to the excellent technical and graphical update id Software treated it to, bringing the hell-raising action of the Doom Slayer into the present once more. Retaining its ludicrously fast-paced and high octane action in the current generation, the game can now run at up to 120 frames-per-second or take advantage of ray tracing. Who said Bethesda isn’t still treating us? Better than ever on PS5, DOOM Eternal raised the bar for the FPS genre in 2024, and it hasn’t yet been surpassed.
