Sega and Amplitude Studios’ latest PC strategy game Humankind – a rival to hit strategy game Civilization – comes to Xbox Game Pass for PC next week.

Amplitude Studios and Microsoft have announced that they will be launching Humankind, the so-called Civ killer, on Xbox Game Pass for PC on day one (August 17).

The game – which has seen a number of delays to date – will be available to anyone with Xbox Game Pass on PC, making it much easier for players eager to see how it measures up to the genre-defining Sid Meier classic to give it a go.

If you’re not keen on playing it via Game Pass, don’t worry; Humankind will also be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store from August 17.

“Combine up to 60 historical cultures as you lead your people from the Ancient to the Modern Age. From humble origins as a Neolithic tribe, transition to the Ancient Era as the Babylonians, become the Classical era Mayans, the Medieval Umayyads, the Early Modern era British, and so on. Each culture will add its own special gameplay layer, leading to near-endless outcomes,” reads a quick overview for the game, if you’re curious.

The developers of the game are clearly looking out for the players’ interests, too; Amplitude Studios’ noted that it would be removing Denuvo anti-piracy tech ahead of the game’s launch to ensure players get a good experience at launch.

In a hands-on preview of the game last year, our own Alex Donaldson said “Humankind is looking like a complex and unique take on the historical grand strategy genre” and there’s a lot of hype around the game in dedicated 4X forums around the internet, too.
