Ratchet And Clank Rift Apart: PS5 Fidelity Mode vs Performance RT vs Performance - Frame Rate Test

Insomniac Games’ Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is out now for the PlayStation 5 and boy, what a technical wonder it is. It’s no surprise that over the years, Insomniac have built themselves to deliver high production AAA games and their recent games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales are proof of that. But Rift Apart is something special. It’s a game that has been built exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and in many ways shows us the potential of Sony’s latest hardware.

In this video we are going to compare the games’ performance across the three modes that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart offers. Before we move forward, note that we analysed the performance by taking some sample scenes from the game and running it through trdrop, an open source software. Note that this tool gives us a mere demonstration of the game’s performance, because an exact 1:1 representation of performance can only be provided by the developers themselves since they have access to a vast array of tools and profilers.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart offers three visual modes. Fidelity, Performance RT and Performance modes. Fidelity mode runs at 2160p resolution at 30 frames per second. We didn’t witness any noticeable frame rate drops. Note that the image quality and several visual effects in this mode are much better than the ones found in Performance RT and Performance modes. And add ray tracing to the mix and you have a genuinely amazing game that sets new technical benchmarks for console graphics.

Next up is Performance RT mode which runs at a dynamic resolution and 60 frames per second with ray tracing added in. Performance during this mode was solid and we witnessed next to no frame rate drops. And lastly we have the performance mode which also runs at 60 frames per second with ray tracing disabled. As expected, performance was solid here as well. We will leave you with more frame rate tests and comparisons between different modes, so check them out and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Also, let us know what game you want us to test next.
