When Resident Evil decided to reinvent itself once again in 2017 with RE7, it did so in some major ways, to the extent that even the protagonist that players played as was a completely new character with no previous connection to the series’ winding lore and overarching story.
While series fans had become used to playing as extremely capable and established characters, in RE7, we stepped into the shoes of Ethan Winters, who’s just… a normal, vanilla guy.
He was certainly put through the wringer during the events of that game, and he’s going to return in his capacity as the primary protagonist in Resident Evil Village, so before the next mainline RE game launches, here, we’re going to catch up on all the events of the previous game, and take a look at the full story of Ethan so far.
