The Witcher season 2 revealed its most in-depth trailer yet, featuring details on the next step in Geralt and Ciri’s journey together. The trailer was introduced Friday during Netflix’s WitcherCon stream by Geralt himself, Henry Cavill.
Friday’s trailer picks up near where season 1 ended, with Geralt and Ciri finally meeting. Geralt explains that the land of Cintra isn’t safe for her anymore, and instead she’ll need to come with him to Kaer Morhen. Fans of the franchise will know that as a hidden castle, and the stronghold of the Witchers. There, with the help of Geralt and his fellow Witchers, Ciri must learn to defend herself and — if the story holds true to the original — someday become a monster hunter.
Of course, this season is likely more than just an extended training montage, and the trailer sets that expectation well. While Ciri and Geralt spend plenty of time working with practice swords in the snow, the trailer also teases several action scenes involving unknown assailants. Whoever it is attacking, they’re sure to have a difficult time taking on a newly trained Ciri alongside Geralt and a bevy of his Witcher brothers.
Finally, the trailer ends by taking us far away from the Witchers’ castle to a forest where Yennefer wakes up. But we’ll have to wait until the season arrives to see whether or not she’ll quickly reunited with Geralt and Ciri.
The Witcher season 2 will be released on Netflix on Dec. 17. Details on the new season weren’t the only thing that Netflix and CD Projekt Red announced during WitcherCon. We also got a new trailer for the animated spinoff movie, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and news that the next-gen update of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition will also include some new DLC content inspired by the Netflix series.
