Netherrealm Studios had been supporting Mortal Kombat 11 for a couple of years. However, in July, the studio announced that support for the game would be coming to an end. Since then, speculation on what Netherrealm’s next game has been occurring, due in part to rumors of the studio working on a Marvel title.
However, according to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb in a new episode of GrubbSnax Selects, he says that he has heard that Warner Bros. doesn’t want Netherrealm Studios to work on any licensed titles. This is because Warner Bros. is concerned about wasting money on licenses if the studio ends up being sold in the future. Instead, Grubb says that it’s likely that the next Netherrealm Studios game is likely Mortal Kombat 12. You can see the GrubbSnax Selects episode down below. Grubb begins talking about the topic at around 2:50 into the video.
