Halloween Kills trailer: Michael Myers vs. Jamie Lee Curtis, round 2

Halloween, David Gordon Green’s 2018 revival of the classic horror franchise, brought Michael Myers back for one more round with Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode. But in the final scene, Laurie gets her revenge, trapping Michael in her burning home.

But this is Halloween. Killing Michael is never really killing Michael.

In Halloween Kills, the knife-wielding, mask-wearing serial killer is back, and hot on the heels of Laurie, her daughter (Judy Greer), and her granddaughter (Andi Matichak), who thought they had finally escaped. Green has returned to direct the sequel, again collaborating with Danny McBride on the script. The first real trailer for the movie sets up just how they’ll keep the “final act” of the franchise going.

Green always intended for the ending of his Halloween to play as conclusive and open-ended. “When you see the original film, you hear him breathing and you know that [Michael] lives on,” the writer-director told Polygon in 2018. “Here, when we see the burning house, we actually hear Allyson breathing from the truck where she’s flagged off of a truck driver and she’s breathing heavily, turns, and then we go into the answer to that house and it’s burning, but we’re hearing her breath over it, which depending on what theater you hear it, it’s super subtle.”

Two sequels, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, were announced and scheduled for release in 2024 and 2024, respectively. But both were pushed a full year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Halloween Kills now hits theaters on Oct. 15, 2024.
