Moonfall trailer: Roland Emmerich’s new disaster movie stars a mad moon

The moon, absolutely livid at humanity for stepping on it more than 50 years ago, will get its revenge on Earth in Moonfall, the latest disaster flick from master of the craft Roland Emmerich. In the first teaser trailer for Moonfall, we see our moon angrily hurtling toward Earth, destroying everything as it approaches. It’s up to astronauts Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) and Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson), joined by conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley), to stop it. Which honestly seems like a pretty big ask for three people!

But as the first trailer for Moonfall teases, the moon’s collision with Earth does not appear to be a natural occurrence. A “mysterious force” (that sure looks like a giant tentacled alien) is responsible for knocking the moon from its orbit. And according to Moonfall’s official description, things will get even weirder. The film’s official description says our heroes “will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space only to find out that our moon is not what we think it is.”

Moonfall is helmed by Roland Emmerich, the German filmmaker who also completely wrecked Earth in Independence Day (and its 2016 sequel), 2012, and The Day After Tomorrow. Joining Berry, Wilson, and Bradley are Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak, and Donald Sutherland.
