PS5 System Software Beta Sign-ups Open for Firmware Update

People have a chance to test new PS5 firmware update first, as Sony opened system software beta sign-ups on June 17, 2024. People who opt in and are picked will get to try out new updates before anyone else. To be specific, the PlayStation Blog noted this will have to do with a “major system update” planned for 2024.

Signing up is relatively easy. People must own a PS5 to participate. They also have to live in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, or the US to take part. They have to be over 18 as well and have access to the internet. People who meet all criteria can opt in at the official site. Sony will randomly pick people, who will then be contacted to download the update.

As for what this next PS5 system software update could entail, Sony didn’t offer any details about what the firmware beta program testers could see after signing up. Instead, it only referred to the PS5 April 2024 update. That was the firmware update that added the ability to store PS5 games to an external storage devices.

System software beta sign-ups for the new PS5 firmware update are now open, though Sony didn’t note when it will stop accepting applications.
