It seems multiple game services are currently out, following an Akamai Edge DNS Service outage. It seems the outage resulted in the PlayStation Network, Steam, and Xbox Live being down. There are no details yet about how long it might last. On Akamai’s end, it noted that the company is aware of and investigating the issue. The statement was issued at 16:09 UTC on July 22, 2024.
Here is the full statement from Akamai.
We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service.
We are actively investigating the issue. If you have questions or are experiencing impact due to this issue, please contact Akamai Technical Support. In the interest of time, we are providing you the most current information available, which is subject to changes, corrections, and updates.
At the moment, user reports are the only ones bringing it up. The official PlayStation and Xbox sites both list the status of PSN and Xbox Live as normal. Also, attempting to visit Steam can trigger a “Service Unavailable DNS failure” message. Other affected games and services with issues that seem to be related include Fortnite.
There is no word about how long the outage might last while PSN, Xbox Live, and Steam are down.
