In 2019, Mortal Kombat’s community manager shut down the idea of cartoon character Shaggy from Scooby-Doo being added to Mortal Kombat 11 as a guest fighter – calling it a “dead meme” and noting how there was no chance of it happening.
Now, in a weird turn of events, “Ultra Instinct Shaggy” – a meme that originated from the Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur movie – has now appeared in the new animated film, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
While it is just a cameo at the start of the film’s Warner Bros. opening, it’s once again got Shaggy supporters talking about the possibility of the cartoon character appearing in the violent and bloody fighting series in the future. Mortal Kombat’s co-creator Ed Boon also joked about Shaggy being “konfirmed”…
If Shaggy does officially appear in the Mortal Kombat video game series in the future, it certainly won’t be in Mortal Kombat 11. NetherRealm has now ended its DLC support for the game to focus on its “next project”.
