We’ve seen Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Fortnite soldiers join the Battle Royale ranks over the past couple of years, so it was only a matter of time before animals decided to get in on the action. Super Animal Royale is the latest take on the genre, pitching 64 cutesy creatures against one another in a battle to the death. It’s a free-to-play release available now on both PlayStation 5 and PS4, and if the trailer embedded above is anything to go by, it genuinely looks pretty good.
What Super Animal Royale actually has going for it is the top-down camera, which brings a whole new perspective to the genre. Sort of acting like Among Us, your vision is restricted by the environment, meaning you may not see an enemy coming before it’s too late. In the same vein, the opportunities for you to sneak up on a foe are great. There’s even said to be some lore hidden throughout the map and NPCs you can chat to.
“Collect hundreds of animal breeds and customise them with thousands of cosmetic items, weapons, outfits, and even umbrellas,” a fact sheet reads. “Enjoy an endless stampede of new content, including seasonal outfits, animals, and weapons to collect.”
