The Hinokami Chronicles gets a new gameplay story trailer

At today’s Sony State of Play livestream, we saw a plethora of third-party games heading to the PlayStation family and, of course, PC. Sega had two offerings to show today, one being the follow-up to the Yakuza spin-off Judgment, called Lost Judgment. The other is the first game based on the mega-popular Demon Slayer anime. Titled Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, it got a new story trailer released today that showed off gameplay from the Tsuzumi Mansion arc. Demon Slayer was actually confirmed for a Western release just last month.

In this part of the story, Tanjiro and Nezuko are joined by Zenitsu and Inosuke for the first time as they battle several powerful demons. One of the fights has Tanjiro squaring off against Kyogai, a demon who uses the drums on his body to shift the perspective of the room they’re in. The fight in the anime was visually and technically spectacular. So, developer CyberConnect2 (Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot) definitely has its work cut out for with this one.

Secondly, we see Zenitsu fighting a demon with a long, prehensile tongue. This is also the first instance where we see Zenitsu’s unique powers, in which he becomes so scared that he passes out and lets his unconscious mind takeover. While in this state, he becomes a total badass and uses a lightning style breathing technique. Which, of course, he has no recollection of when he comes to.

Walking on the walls

This trailer highlights a lot of the mobility and combat shown off in previous trailers, as well as how closely CyberConnect2 is sticking to the source material. The Adventure Mode in Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will feature gameplay covering the first seven arcs of the series. This covers everything from the “Final Selection” arc up until the “Mugen Train” arc. The Mugen Train arc was actually released in theaters earlier this year, blowing its competition out of the water. By the way, if you’re a fan of the series and haven’t seen it yet, fix that immediately.

The game is releasing onto PC via Steam on October 15. There will be a standard version and a Digital Deluxe version, the latter of which has bonus cosmetics and in-game items. You can find out more info on the game’s official website.
