The Hinokami Chronicles Gameplay Details Revealed

Aniplex has revealed that the single player mode for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will follow Tanjiro’s story up until the beginning of the Mugen Train storyline. Additionally, a newly released story mode trailer gives a glimpse into what the single-player gameplay will look like in Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles. It also revealed that the versus mode will feature a total of 18 characters, some of which will be unlockable early by purchasing the special editions.

The trailer shows Tanjiro at various points of his journey, from the forests during the Final Selection to the streets of Asakusa. The Final Selection arc in particular features a segment where Tanjiro uses his enhanced sense of smell to track down demons. It’s then followed by clips of a boss battle with the Hand Demon, who is a significantly larger enemy that boasts powerful wide-range AoEs.

The single-player story also includes in-game cinematics of various scenes from the Demon Slayer anime, which Cyberconnect2 describes as a way to “re-experience” the story. It seems like there will be non-combat sections in the game. However, it is currently unclear whether this will also include open-world exploration similar to Cyberconnect2’s previous release, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

The announcement also revealed the full 18-character roster for Versus mode, confirming that none of the demon characters from the series will be playable on launch. However, this does include 6 variant characters from the spin-off Demon Slayer: Kimetsu Gakuen series. If you want to unlock these characters early, Cyberconnect2 has announced the full list of bonuses that will come with each edition of the game.

While the official story mode trailer is not available outside of Japan, you can watch a re-uploaded version courtesy of PS360HD2 below.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles launches in Japan for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 14, 2024. Sega has confirmed that the game will also get an English localization and release in Asia sometime in 2024.
